John D. Kiernan



After his admission to the Florida Bar in 1971, Mr. Kiernan commenced practice in St. Petersburg with his father, Thomas V. Kiernan at the firm of Kiernan & Reams. In 1985, Mr. Kiernan joined the firm of Harris, Barrett, Mann & Dew, L.L.P. where he became a Partner in 1986. On May 3, 1999, Mr. Kiernan joined our Firm as a Partner.

Mr. Kiernan is a Certified Circuit Court Mediator. He is "AV" rated by Martindale-Hubbell.

Mr. Kiernan is experienced in general insurance defense litigation, including professional negligence; commercial litigation; homeowners liability; premises liability; motor vehicle liability; declaratory actions and sovereign immunity where he has represented the State of Florida, Departments of Transportation, Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, Children and Families, Juvenile Justice, Management Services and Corrections; the Florida Board of Regents as well as the Agency for Health Care Administration, the Hillsborough and Pinellas County Health Departments, as well as the State Attorney and Public Defender for the Sixth Judicial Circuit. He has tried jury trials in the Circuit Courts of Pinellas, Hillsborough, Manatee, Charlotte, Polk, Pasco and Sumter Counties. In addition, he has handled appellate matters. including oral arguments, before the Second District Court of Appeal and Fifth District Court of Appeal, State of Florida

St. Petersburg Bar Association; the Florida Bar, Florida Defense Lawyers Association; Mr. Kiernan formerly served as Chairman of the Sixth Judicial Circuit Grievance Committee "A" by the Florida Bar. He has been selected by his peers as a Florida Super Lawyer.
